Coach Hansen graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from Dallas Baptist University and then went on to obtain his graduate degree in Kinesiology. During his time as an athlete Hansen set the then-school record in the Men’s 5000 meters with a time of 15:07. He was named All-Conference in 2007 with his 5th place overall finish, while helping leading the Patriot men to their first ever Heartland Conference Championship. In 2008 Hansen was the NCCAA Runner-up in the Men’s 5000 meters and was named NCCAA All-American for his performance.
As an assistant coach Hansen was in charge of Men’s Recruiting and was vital in the daily training and planning that resulted in three consecutive Women’s Heartland Conference Cross Country Championships, a trip to the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships for the women, and the Men’s second Heartland Conference Championship in 2010. Hansen was involved in coaching several school records as every distance record from 800 meters to 10,000 meters,
